NOVEMBER UPDATE

Nonington Parish Council NEWSLETTER – December 2022

Large Development on our Doorstep

The Local Development Plans (Dover and Canterbury) propose to build 3200 houses in the local area are currently out for public consultation.

According to the Government’s website Local Plans are:- “Succinct and up-to-date plans should provide a positive vision for the future of each area and a framework for addressing housing needs and other economic, social and environmental priorities.”

Nonington Parish is in the Dover District Council area. However, it will be affected by Canterbury City Council plans. Both authorities have now published plans which seriously affect our village. The Canterbury plan has two areas of housing. The one at Adisham proposes 3200 houses directly opposite Aylesham , creating a new large town. The other area is close to Womenswold where there are 420 (minimum) houses proposed. The Canterbury plan also creates a country park between the houses and Womenswold (It is already rural land).

All of this will have an impact on Nonington as we know it.

This Council urges everyone to comment on both plans.  Whether you agree with the plans or not you may want to consider and comment on some or all of the following :-

• The rural nature of this area.

• Pressure on our roads.

• Sewage.

• Infrastructure. Increased stress on local services.

• Public Transport.
