Wkly report 19/7 - Town bowlers continue to find their touch
Saffron Walden Town Bowling Club
In the last round of matches in the North West Essex Bowls League both the Towns A and B teams had resounding wins to get their seasons back on track. The A team travelled to struggling Stansted and came away with a comprehensive 60 shots to 40 win keeping them in touch with the leaders. In the second division, the B team, after a period of indifferent form and finding themselves drifting towards the relegation zone, faced a confident Radwinter team at Abbey Lane. The home side kept their nerve and gained a hard fought 49 – 45, 6 points to 2, win to ease any concerns.
Unfortunately, the Seniors poor run continues with back-to-back loses against Epping away and Stansted at home. In the SBBL, after struggling against the division leaders, Quendon, the week before the side were on magnificent form on Friday against a Steeple Bumpstead side. All three rinks had commanding wins, giving them an aggregate victory score of 78 – 30 and all ten league points.
In the Saturday friendly against Havers Park for the Fish Cup at Abbey Lane, Saffron Walden had to make up a deficit of twelve shots across the three rinks from the away leg played in June. As the match progressed, the home side began to get the upper hand but never got the aggregate score beyond the required 12 mark until the final two ends. Pleasingly, they eventually regained the trophy by 8 shots.
