Wkly report 2/8 - Mixed results for Town's bowlers

A busy week saw a mixed bag of results for the Town's bowlers. On Monday, the Steeple Bumpstead League side failed to reach the final after a competitive semi-final against Clavering in which two of the three rinks went right down to the wire; finally losing 59 - 46. The Essex and Herts Seniors picked up some points but remain nearer the bottom of the league than the top.

In the North West Essex League, the A team kept their good run going with a comprehensive 67 - 40 win against Steeple Bumpstead, but they dropped two league points after losing on one rink. The B team had a rousing match against unbeaten league leaders Elsenham A's away. As the matches came to a conclusion, it looked like there might be a first defeat for Elsenham's top pair and with a win on the second rink it would have been a satisfying 4 -4 points split. Whilst the first rink ended tied, with a late surge of four bowls on the last end, the other was lost. The final result was only one of the eight points for Walden.

On Saturday, 1st August the club hosted a very enjoyable Steeple Bumpstead 80th Anniversary Gala. The day started with a Spider followed by the 3 different formats of bowls which are played by the Clubs in the League were played by the 12 teams who attended the Gala. Photos of the day...
