Short Mat Bowls

Short mat bowls is a social sport played indoors from mid-September until March.  Our sessions are a fun way to learn how to play bowls and improve your skills in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Our members are a friendly group who meet weekly to practice short mat bowls and to socialise.

Why Short Mat bowls?

This activity is good for your wellbeing because:

•              it's a gentle sport to help keep you moving

•              it's a strategic game which helps to keep your mind active

•              it's a chance to socialise with others and make new friends.

What to expect:

Short Mat Bowls is played on a long narrow mat, just short of the length of the hall.  The group usually splits into teams of two (pairs) or three (triples) per mat and each game is usually between six to 12 ‘ends’ depending on the number of attendees.  A number of games are played over the two mats before stopping for a tea break half way through.

For most players, their games are always a bit hit and miss, so you will soon realise that you will easily fit in, regardless of whether you have ever played before or not.

When & where:

The group meet every Wednesday from 2:15pm to 4.45pm at the Bowling club in Abbey Lane.  First session is Wednesday, 23rd September.

What to bring:

No equipment is necessary as we have spare bowls but if you have your own bowls please bring them along.

How much is it?

If you are not already a member of the Bowls club you will need to join as a Social member, the cost currently being £20.  There is then a playing fee of £3 per session to cover hall use and teas & coffees.

Any questions:

If you would like further information and / or a membership application form please contact Louisa Atherton, our Club Secretary, on 07970 716677 or swtbcsecretary@outlook.com.  Trial sessions are also available.

We look forward to seeing you there.
