After an absence of two years the Open was back - being played at its usual locations - South Cliff Bowling Club & Scalby & Newby Bowling Club. Numbers entering have been most encouraging - just short of the total of 2019. There were a number of absentees who are involved in the National Finals at Leamington Spa.

On a glorious September day the Men’s Singles were fought out at South Cliff and the Ladies at Scalby and Newby. Over the day there were 18 matches at South Cliff - the first to 21 points. The quality of competition was impressive. The Club had 4 representatives - Tom R, Phil M, Peter B & Paul B. Paul reached the semi-final, after a reasonably comfortable quarter final where he will play Thornton Le Dale’s Chris G .

The other quarter finals were splendid with both being decided 21-20, taking in excess of 25 ends. The successful winners - Sean K (West Park) & Nick C (Driffield Rec) will contest the other semi final on Friday.

Many thanks to all the competitors for providing an excellent day of bowling. Thanks to the markers - from South Cliff who did a sterling job in the sun and some had been on the rink since 9:30. Umpire Pauline V did an excellent job - the calipers came in very handy! Many thanks to the catering crew who kept everyone fed and watered. The bacon butties as ever were very popular. Thanks also to those who helped set up the green.

We now get ready for the Ladies Pairs tomorrow.
