Our Schools
An important part of the Blooming Westgate project has been the involvement of schools. Children at St Saviour’s junior school started growing cosmos flowers from seed in April, nurturing and watering them throughout the weeks and months.
On 8th July, the 12 children of the school council transferred their maturing plants to two town planters and one of the war memorial beds. We will see them flower in the coming weeks.
And students from both St Saviour’s junior school and Ursuline College, as well as children from the Piggybank Nursery, have been creating stunning artworks and ‘pollinator poetry’ to celebrate the biodiversity of Blooming Westgate and powerfully communicate the ecological messages that it stands for.

The artworks and poetry were displayed on 18th July at Westgate Community Centre during Picnic in the Park and at the Summer Fayre at St Saviour’s church.
They will then be displayed at:
- Westgate Galleria & Studio on Station Road, 1-9 August
- Westgate-on-Sea Town Council, 78 St Mildreds Road, 11-21 August
- St Saviour’s Church Art Exhibition, 22-31 August
