This accessibility statement applies to the website for Wroxeter & Uppington Parish Council.

This website is run by Wroxeter & Uppington Parish Council.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.  We have made the website text as simple as possible to understand.  You should also be able to, for example:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

PDF and other documents

PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.  We do not intend to fix any documents published before September 2018 unless requested to do so on an individual basis. 

We plan to have accessible versions of documents published after September 2018 in place by the end of January 2021.  In the meantime, users can contact the Clerk to discuss getting the information in another format. 

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Navigation and accessing information

The website is not fully accessible by keyboard and it is not always clear which tab you are on when using just a keyboard.

Our website designer is aware of the problems and is working on a rebuild which should fix this.

Some page titles are not clear when shown in the browser tab.

A number of our titles give the Parish Council name first which means the main title is missed off the tab.  We will update these titles by the end of December 2020.

Not all headings are styled properly so will not be highlighted when using a screen reader.

We will format all current content headings in the correct style by the end of December 2020.  Any new content will be styled correctly from the start.

The contrast of some parts of the website is not set appropriately for some visual impairments. 

Our website designers have added functionality to change the colour and contrast on the site and we will adjust the settings.

ARIA* (see below for definition) markup has not been used.

Our website designers are currently working on a rebuild which will incorporate ARIA markup standards and make us fully compliant.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We have an Action Plan in place to make our website more accessible.  We will review this again in September 2021.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 7 September 2020.  It was last reviewed on 7 September 2020.

This website was last tested on 27 August 2020. The test was carried out by the Clerk to the Parish Council.

We decided to test all of the main pages of the website, and a random selection of sub-pages.  As the website is small, we decided that it was sensible to test all of the main pages which contain slightly more detailed text.  The sub-pages are very similar pages which hold a list of documents and it was decided to randomly sample these to ensure consistency across the website.
