About Us

Founded in 1956, our first lawn bowls green was at the Follsain Wycliffe Foundary, sandwiched between the football pitch and the machine shop! Not too auspicious a start but since then, our club has had a long and illustrious history and today, we have our own purpose-built facility offering both lawn bowls and pétanque.

The club is a very friendly and fully mixed member’s club, run via a committee comprised of elected volunteers from the membership. Being conveniently located at Hall Park, LE17 4LN, we have a diverse membership from school age through to octogenarians. We have visually impaired players and former County Champions so no matter your age or ability, there is a welcome here for you; beginners in either or both sports would be especially welcome.

We have excellent facilities for playing lawn bowls and pétanque. Both these sports are played at all levels - (friendlies, club competitions, in local leagues, in County and National competitions) so there is a level to suit everyone. We have qualified coaches to guide and help in both sports so there is plenty of opportunity to take up a new sport or improve your game.

In addition, we have a superb, accessible clubhouse, with a large function room, licensed bar and catering facilities where we hold such social events as ‘indoor short mat’ bowls, quizzes, club meetings, indoor games evenings and bingo evenings. There is ample carparking for members and their guests.

We operate throughout the year. During the outdoor bowls season, which runs from mid-April until the end of September, there are league matches and club competitions for competitive players. The club has two teams in the Hinckley Triples League and one Team in the South Leicester Triples League, whilst for recreational players we have friendly matches versus other clubs held on most Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. There are also regular 'roll ups' for those who want to play and practise with other club members. The quality of our playing surface has been recognised and now we host inter-county games and club matches in Leicestershire's finals programme. During the winter, short mat indoor bowling is available in the clubhouse. This is very popular with members and is run on a weekday evening. In addition, we have a group of players who play indoor bowls at a local sports centre.

Pétanque is played all year round with free access to members at any time for a social game or practise. Last summer we had two teams playing in the local leagues, one in Division 1 and a newer team in Division 2. Experienced players combine with newcomers to provide competitive opposition for all adversaries. We reached the final of the President's Cup in our first attempt and in 2025 we hope to go 'one better'. In-house competitions provide good social meetings throughout the year and we host regional and national events on our ten piste terrain. Local U3A and WI groups are regular users and we hope to see 'twinning' groups on the terrain when they host their guests.

The club is also available for hire for such events as meetings, presentations, birthday parties, etc.
