Annual Sports Awards

Important Notice - Unfortunately due to impact of Covid19 on the ability for the Sporting community to participate in sport during 2020/21 and financial impact on the Borough Council, Apollo Hotel and other sponsors, the decision has had to me regrettably made not to allocate Grant Aid for 2020/21 and not hold the annual sports awards or award Sports Scholarships in early 2021.

Our Borough is fortunate to have a very strong sporting community, which is often demonstrated in competition. Basingstoke Voluntary Sports CouncilBasingstoke Borough Council, Basingstoke Community Leisure Trust, Basingstoke Sports Trust, Breeze FM, Destination Basingstoke, Basingstoke Deane Rotary and Basingstoke Gazette all play a big part in recognising and supporting this at the annual Sports Awards. The annual Sports Awards are coordinated by Basingstoke Sports Council and are kindly hosted by the Apollo Hotel. The awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of clubs, teams, coaches, officials and individuals involved in sport locally.

The Award trophies are jointly sponsored by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation, Community Leisure Trust and Basingstoke Deane Rotary which is greatly appreciated.

The Borough Council allocate funds for Grant Aid for the support and development of local sportsmen and women. The Basingstoke Sports Trust and Basingstoke Community Leisure Trust also award Scholarships to a selection of top athletes, which provide them with access to facilities and a personal trainer at the Sports Centre or Aquadrome. Everyone who applies for grant aid is automatically considered for the annual sports awards.

The Sports Awards, Grant Aid and Scholarships schemes produce a coordinated approach to provide support for the local sporting community. Applications for Grant Aid and all other Sports Awards are accepted between September 20th until December 20th.  Note that local sports clubs must be affiliated to Basingstoke Voluntary Sports Council if nominating in any Sports Award category but not grant aid for talented Sportsmen and Women.

The Basingstoke & Deane awards are a great celebration of local talent and dedication. Past details of winners are available on each category page within this website. Given the wealth of talent and dedication in the local sporting community, a special Mayor's Reception is also arranged to recognise other individuals, youth teams and volunteers who do not make the Apollo event.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in partnership with the Local Sports Council provide a grant scheme to assist sportsmen and women in their efforts to achieve full National, International and Olympic honours. Grants are available to provided assistance with travelling and coaching expenses, qualifications, equipment and clothing requirements.

Applications for grant aid are welcome annually between 20th September and 20th December annually with applicants being at least County Standard or equivalent within their sport and priority will be given to those performing at the higher National and International levels. Applications must be fully supported by the coach and club of the applicant and also include any other additional information that would support the grant application e.g. Press Releases.

Grant Aid Application forms are available on request from the Borough Council (01256 845752) Forms should then be sent by post or emailed (basvsc@outlook.com), to the Local Sports Council at 3 Dragonfly Drive, Lychpit, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG24 8RU

Applicants for Grant Aid are automatically considered for the Basingstoke & Deane Annual Sports Awards and for scholarship support from the Basingstoke Community Leisure Trust (Aquadrome) or Basingstoke Sports Trust (Sports Centre).
