2023 Memorial Day
The Memorial Day Fun Bowls Event was held on Sunday 14.05.2023. It was attended by 26 players and a good dozen or so spectators.
The players were split into 8 teams of 3 (A couple of players played as reserves). The 8 teams were then split into 2 Leagues.
Each Team played 3 matches which consisted of 4 ends of various types of bowls (Single Jack, Target Mat, Double Jack & Underneath The Arches). Each end tested a players accuracy with their bowling, and the Teams strategy on how to play the end.
At the conclusion of the 3 matches the League positions were worked out and the Top Team in each League played the Final after Lunch.
The day started off overcast and a little chilly and the players had their warm clothes on. All the ends within each match were keenly contested with some ends being seen as a little easier than others.
As the day warmed up the Green started to play a little faster/easier. This did catch out a few players who struggled to control their weight on the delivery.
After playing the 3 rounds everyone moved in doors to partake in a sumptuous lunch of Baked Potato with various toppings and side salads, along with a variety of Puddings.
After Lunch a few minutes were spent by all present at the Memorial Garden, where Richard said a few words and a minutes silence was held to remember all the former members who had passed away over the years.
Having enjoyed the Lunch, the Two League Winners played the Final over the 4 ends.
The victorious Team was Team G which was, Nick Long, Angus Snowden & Sandra Harrison.
The Runners up were Team C which was, John Robson, Pat Dahlgren & Martin Sandwell.
Richard & I would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who supported the Day and from the feedback received it was enjoyed by all. A special thank you must be given to all that helped in making the Day such a splendid event. Not enough room here to name you all, but you know who you are.
The Day was such a success that that the Club raised £142.30 for the Jamie Rees Defibrillator Charity (Our Jay Foundation).
Thank you once again for your support.
Kind regards
Helen & Richard
