News from Bowls England

Get set for the National Finals 10th – 27th August. Each summer the eyes of the bowls world fall on Royal Leamington Spa for the prestigious Bowls England National Finals. Prepare yourself for the ultimate battle on the greens and witness the best players in the country competing for glory! The road to Leamington starts now, tickets are available from 14th June. Discover everything about the event here!

Last reminder for the tour of Rugby School gardens Wednesday 5 th July.

A notice has gone on the board in the clubhouse, sign up for the tour or ring Richard. Not many signed up so far and it would be such a shame to cancel. This was a glorious summer’s evening last year in a beautiful setting. Bring friends and family and share the club’s links with this historic school.

Charity Fun Bowls Day on Sunday 30th July - A message from Club Presidents

This will be open to All Members. The days bowling will start at 10.00am (Arrival 9.30am). A Lunch will be provided with details on what will be offered sent out later when finalised. There will be a raffle with all proceeds on the day going to the Jamie Rees Defibrillator Charity. If you would like to donate a raffle prize for this event could you please pass it to myself or Richard. If you wish to take part, or spectate, on the day could you please email Helen by Mid-Day on Friday 7th July to book your place. Alternatively, please “Sign Up” on the Form on the Club Notice Boards.It is hoped that this will be an enjoyable social event where new & old members can get to know each other whilst enjoying the sport we all love, LAWN BOWLS in a format not often seen.

In other news - Bilton Bowling Club History

Committee Meeting held on the Bowling Green 10.30am Nov 21st 1926

Present Mr Barnett Chair. Mssrs Cook, Spicer, Watts, Cox, Veale, Partridge & Stibbard. The committee inspected the Green & it was proposed that Mr Spicer get 2 load of sand also 2 load of soil it being left to Mr Partridge to inspect same and have power to purchase if satisfactory. It was also left in Mr Partridge’s hands to raise parts of the Green and put on lawn sand. Members of the committee offered to help. (The Green is in the grounds of Bilton Hall)

Committee Meeting held at The George Inn March 17th 1927

Present Mr Barnett Chair. Messrs Cook, Spicer, Watts, Cox, Wilson, Stibbard. Proposed that Mr Spencer be MC for Whist drive and see Mr Richardson for tables. It be left to Mr Cook & Mr Spicer to settle about the prizes. That Mr Partridge have power to purchase lawn sand required. That Rules and Fixtures be printed in card form and sold to members at 6d each. It was decided that Mr Cook with Mr White would come and give us a talk and demonstration on bowling at The George Inn on April 6th .
