2024 Finals Weekend
The weekend of 21st and 22nd of September was forecast by the weather people to be raining non stop and with thunder to make an appearance too. As it happened, the weather fairy was on our side and the club saw some of the closest games ever played on a finals weekend, and in the dry.
Every game was won either on the last end, with the last wood or with the last measure. the scores were so close with most matches being won by one point only. Thanks to all those supporters who braved the promised rain, but were rewarded by some exciting matches.
The Yardstick was won by Charles Marsh who narrowly beat Neil Webber on the last end.
The Plate was not played as Dave Waters was unable to attend and so Trevor Lyons was awarded the win.
Brought forward from Sunday to Saturday due to the weather, The Two Wood singles was won by Linda Prior who won through against Phil Philpot on the last end, winning by two. Phil's last wood skimmed the jack but went through.
The mixed singles was another thrilling match which could have gone either way. Peter Shead won through, again on the last end, beating Colin Marsh into the runners up position.
Colin and Peter were also in action on Sunday, when the weather fairy was again kind to all the players. This time they teamed up together to play in the drawn Pairs against Jan Weatherley and Phil Philpot. Another exiting match which was won on the last end with a very tight measure needed to decide who won. Peter and Colin were awarded the win.
The Ladies singles was a game of two halves with Mary Mellett and Jackie Leek vying for the lead. At the last end it was Jackie who just made the last wood count. Another very close end to the match.
The Men's Singles was also a very tight match between Bob Holliday and Trevor Lyons. This match drew a good audience who were delighted to witness the fiercely fought game which was just won by Bob Holliday.
Thanks to all the supporters who came along. Also to the volunteers who got the green ready and put out the equipment and cleared up afterwards, manned the bar and made tea and coffee.
Thanks also to Dave Chapman for the photos.
