Bowls roundup
Boughton-Under-Blean Bowls Club
Boughton started their week with the ladies heading off to Ramsgate for a Heron league match. Despite being ahead on both rinks at one point, the home team won through. Ramsgate 47. Boughton 36
Tuesday saw the ladies out and about again, travelling this time to Birchington for another Heron league match. Boughton 16. Birchington 50
Also on Tuesday, the men travelled to Whitstable for a Forrest of Blean match. Boughton 93- Whitstable 126
Winning rinks: Ron Piper, Trevor Lyons and Phil Philpot won 23-22
Tim Prior, Brian Gentry and Bob Holliday won 16-15
Wednesday and Boughton hosted a friendly with Ash. The hot weather resulted in the match finishing with only four rinks. Ash were the winners. We hope everyone has recovered from this exhausting outing.
Sunday saw another friendly with Boughton travelling to Cheriton. The weather turned and this time to avoid the rain, the match finished early with Cheriton the overall winners.
The highlight of the week, on Saturday was the annual ‘Boughton Open’ where teams travelled from all over East Kent to play for the Norman Hulks Trophy. With perfect weather, the participants enjoyed the green as well as the catering laid on by the volunteers who also ran the bar and performed a host of other jobs. We wholeheartedly thank all the volunteers (too numerous to mention) for their efforts, which I understand started at 6.30am, and made this a very successful day.
The third-place team were from St Margarets Bay. The runners up from Kemsley and the winners from Whitstable were Barbara McGillicuddy (lead), Trevor Epps (Second) and Brian Watson (Skip). Awards were presented by Norman Hulks children, Janice and Barry and club Chairman Roy Tamplin.
