Short mat season gets off to a good start.

A team from Boughton are runners up in first big competition of the season, The Hawkinge open triples.

Well done to Tim Prior (lead), Bob Holliday (second) and Linda Prior (skip) who beat county and England players on their way to the final.

MATCH REPORT

Saturday 12th October saw one of the biggest short mat competitions in the area. Hawkinge has eight mats and thirty-two teams from all over Kent, entered to do battle for the honours. A team from Boughton entered, and in the first-round beat Arca 12-4. Boughton lost their second match to Newchurch 4-11 on a tricky fast mat. The match against St Mary’s Bay was very tight, and on the last end while trailing one point and with the opposition holding one, skip Linda Prior took the jack back with the last wood for three, winning 8-6. This win took them into the next round and they played group winners Hamstreet, winning 10-3 for a place in the last eight. This time they met Harrietsham, and won the match 12-3 taking them into the quarter finals where again they met Newchurch. This time the mat was not so fast and suited lead Tim Prior and Second Bob Holliday much better. Newchurch who expected a second win, lost 7-3 and headed for home. A place in the final awaited Boughton against Tunbury. The final was hard fought, again on a fast mat, which caught both teams out at first. Tunbury clung on for the win 7-3 with Boughton taking home the spoils for the runners up.
