There were some excellent results all round for Bovey Tracey bowlers involved in the various competitions taking place around the county.
Keith Lockett, Tyler Smith and Les Hignett won their Men's Triples at Newton Abbot by 24 shots to 7 (conc.) while Sarah Breame won a closely fought second round match in the Ladies' Singles by 21 shots to 18. In the Men's Unbadged Pairs at Shaldon, Tyler Smith and Alastair Franklin won their match by 20 shots to 14 after recovering from a slow start. Kenny Breame and Roger Bailey won their match in the Grater Pairs 24-9
Bovey's ladies were involved in a close match in the Grace Matthews competition at home against Marina, and were delighted to emerge victorious by three events to two. Winners for Bovey were Kay Eldergill, Jane Ridgewell and Sue Johnson in the triples, Chris Towle and Rose Young in the doubles and Heidi Call in the four-bowl singles. They now progress to play Newton Abbot in the next round.
The men were involved in two matches in the Mid Devon League. At Paignton they performed well to come away with 13 league points to Paignton's 1 after winning three rinks and drawing on the other. Despite the overall result, the winning rinks scores were by just 4, 2 and 1 shots. At Brixham St Mary on a beautiful afternoon, Bovey won one rink, drew one but lost on the other two, to gain 3 league points to St Mary's 11.
In the Men's Over 55s X Division, Bovey came down to earth at Newton Abbot after their promising start to the season, being well beaten on both rinks to lose by 8 league points to nil. The Y team did well to record their first win of the season at Marina by 7 points to 1, only to suffer the disappointment of an eight point penalty for an administrative error.
There was still time to fit in a home mixed friendly against Plymstock and, despite Bovey losing overall by 58 shots to 67, the team of Pat Fletcher, Mike Holness and Kenny Breame recorded a Hot Shot of nine shots on the final end of their game.
