2018 Season

INDOOR / OUTDOOR LEAGUE  2017/2018

Just a short report about the Outdoor / Indoor League held at the Newark Indoor Bowls Centre over the winter months.

I was approached by the Chairman, Steve Ayling, asking if Collingham Bowls Club would be interested in entering two teams of three as a club had withdrawn.  I sent out an email and had 14 replies from members interested in participating.

As a number of us are quite new to the sport and some had never played indoors before my approach was to give everyone the experience of participating rather than playing the strongest team every week.  This resulted in enjoyable games

but unfortunately not many wins as most of the other teams were very strong.  Indeed a number had more than one County player participating.

A bonus was that all eight teams would win a monetary prize for their club.  On Monday the 19th March we played our final game and won on both rinks; a rare occurrence.

I have not seen all the results but we finished seventh of eight and I have been given a cheque for £160 for our club funds.  The 1st prize was £230 and last prize £150.

I should like to thank everyone that participated and hope that they all enjoyed the competition.

The competition will be continuing next winter so I will be emailing in October for people willing to play.
