Plaque 11: Sergeant Thomas Harris VC MM

Sergeant Thomas Harris VC MM is Halling’s hero of the First World War, killed in action just three months before the conflict ended. For his heroism under fire Sgt. Harris was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross, the highest award for bravery in the British armed forces. He once lived here at 6 Manor Terrace, Lower Halling (which became 79 High Street) from where Thomas enlisted in the army in 1914, aged 22.
