Plaque 8: In memory of Ted Gowers

Edward ‘Ted’ Gowers was one of the founder members of the Halling Historical Society. Ted’s family had lived in the village for around 200 years and he himself lived and worked in Halling all his life. He volunteered for the Commandos during the Second World War, serving in No. 3 Troop and taking an active role in the DDay fighting at Pegasus Bridge in June 1944. Given Ted’s long involvement with the community it was felt that the Jubilee Hall was a fitting place to display this memorial to him.
