Weave your memory into The Fabric of Winchester
St Johns of WInchester are launching a pioneering, wide-reaching initiative to capture the stories of Winchester through the creation of several memory quilts. Individuals, families, community groups, churches, and schools, are invited to ‘donate’ a memory, either by gifting a piece of fabric or clothing which holds special meaning, or stitching a square depicting a poignant time, with local businesses able to purchase a bespoke block featuring their logo or company name.
With contributions from across the community, St Johns of WInchester will stitch together the memories that make Winchester extraordinary, displaying the finished memory quilts for the public to enjoy at The Arc in January 2024. The quilts will then be donated to Winchester Hospice, a gift from the community and St John’s in support of the impactful work of the Hospice providing palliative and end of life care.
For individuals, families, schools and community groups, there is no cost to participate in the project, with several free Community Sewing Days enabling all in Winchester to come together and share in the joy of creativity and storytelling. However, all donations raised throughout the project will go towards the St John’s Dementia Support service, supporting those whose memories and stories we must cherish.
