Parish Council Elections - 2024

The Parish Council elections for 2024 will be held on Thursday 2nd May and all current 11 Cllrs will be standing down.  Any wishing to stand again for the next four years, along with any interested residents, will be required to complete a nomination form (closing date Friday 5th April at 4.00pm).

Could This Be You?

Local issues need local people to speak up for them:

  • You could help keep Marden a vibrant, good place to live by becoming a Parish Councillor;
  • You could be in at the “grass roots” level of Local Government and be involved in making things happen or getting things sorted!;
  • You could get local views about local issues brought to the attention of the powers that be;

Criteria:

To be able to stand as a candidate for Marden Parish Council elections you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Be a British Citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union and meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
    • You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for Marden from the day of your nomination onwards;
    • You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the date of election;
    • Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish area;
    • You have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.

Please ensure that you include the Local Government Act 1972 pages 2 to 7 as these are part of the nomination paper and preferably on yellow paper because that distinguishes them from the Borough Ward nomination papers.

Hard copies can be obtained from Marden Parish Council office during opening hours (Mon/Tues/Fri 10.00am to 12noon) or Tuesday 5th or 12th March between 5.00pm and 7.00pm).

Important Dates:
Friday 22nd March: Publication of Notice of Election
Monday 25th March: Nominations open
Friday 5th April 4pm: Receipt of nominations (closes)
Thursday 2nd May 7am to 10pm - elections

Please note: Nomination papers should be hand delivered. Please attend Maidstone House Reception (NOT THE LINK) between the hours of 10am and 4pm, any day from Monday 25 March 2024 up to and including Friday 5 April  2024.

There are 22 Wards and 35 Parishes up for election this year and Maidstone Borough Council are running a booking system to help with the flow and reduce the waiting time. It would be in your best interest to make an appointment with the Electoral Services Team. Please call 01622 602007 or email electoralservices@maidstone.gov.uk  to make an appointment.

Parish Council Elections - 2021

The Parish Council elections of 2021 were uncontested on 6th May due to only 9 nominations being received.  Two further Cllrs to bring the total to 11 were co-opted on 8th June 2021.  The following Councillors are in office until 2024 (unless resign etc):
