Welcome to the website for Mickleham Parish Council.  

Mickleham is a village and civil parish in the Mole Valley, Surrey, that lies midway between the towns of Dorking and Leatherhead.  The civil parish includes Norbury Park, Mickleham Downs, and parts of Box Hill  (click here for Parish Boundary map).  Mickleham village includes a Conservation Area and there are many listed buildings both in the village and elsewhere in the Parish.  The whole parish lies
in the heart of the Surrey Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) with its many acres of protected woodland.

       
                                                                                                                                                                                                             Mickleham has been a settlement for well over a thousand years.  It was recorded in 1086 AD in the Domesday Book as "Michelham" and "Micleham".  A thousand years earlier, the major Roman Road "Stane Street", which ran from Chichester to London, passed through Mickleham.  It crossed the River Mole at Burford, continued to the present site of Juniper Hall, and then turned northeast at Juniper Hill toward Mickleham Downs and Ashtead, before heading in a straight line from Epsom to London Bridge (the first of which was built by the Romans in about 55 AD, and led to the growth of "Londinium").  Much of that part of Stane Street is now covered by the A24 as far as Clapham Common, with the final 4 miles covered by the A3.  The section from Juniper Hall across Mickleham Downs is now a byway marked as Downs Road on this map.  

Today the civil parish of Mickleham (population 585) includes a small hamlet (Fredley, pop. about 40).  The parochial (church) parish of Mickleham also includes Westhumble, which was originally another small Mickleham hamlet but is now a larger community (pop. 649) with its own residents' association.   Mickleham & Westhumble share a parish church (St Michael's), a village hall, a parish magazine, and many societies and activities (see Local Links page).

Mickleham village is served by the 465 bus route which runs between Kingston and Dorking, and the nearest National Rail Station is Box Hill & Westhumble, 1.4 miles from the village (click here for rail journey planner).
