Highways

Stockbury Parish Council works closely with Kent County Council (KCC), as the local Highway Authority, to raise and progress highway and road-safety matters affecting the parish.

Highway Improvement Plan

The Parish Council maintains a Highway Improvement Plan (HIP) in partnership with KCC. The HIP is a living document which enables the Council to identify, prioritise and put forward highway improvements that it believes would benefit Stockbury and improve safety for residents and all road users.

The plan focuses on new highway initiatives and improvement schemes, rather than routine maintenance issues such as potholes or damaged road surfaces. The Council reviews its priorities and works with KCC's Highways team to investigate what measures may be appropriate, achievable and capable of being funded.

KCC advises that resources are generally available to review the HIP annually and that its Project Managers will normally investigate the Council's highest one or two priorities each year.

Stockbury's Highway Priorities

The Parish Council's current Highway Improvement Plan identifies a range of concerns across the parish, including inappropriate HGV movements, unsuitable use of narrow rural lanes, speeding and road-user safety, signage, junction safety and improvements around the A249/M2 Junction 5.

Current priorities include Southlees Lane, Bimbury Lane and Chalky Road, the South Green Lane/Hazel Street/Pett Lane crossroads, Pett Road and improvements to signage and safety on a number of Stockbury's rural roads.
