The Community Bus

The Stockbury Community Bus

The Stockbury Community Bus provides a valuable local transport service for residents of Stockbury and the surrounding communities, helping people to reach nearby shopping centres and amenities.

Run with the support of volunteer drivers, the service provides regular weekly journeys and has become an important part of village life, particularly for residents who may otherwise find accessing local shops and services difficult.

Weekly Bus Service

The Community Bus currently operates three days each week:

Monday – Sittingbourne
Tuesday – Maidstone, including Lockmeadow Market
Thursday – Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre

Pick-ups commence from approximately 9.30am and can be arranged close to where you live.

To book a seat or make an enquiry, please telephone:

07551 454702

Volunteer Drivers

The Community Bus relies upon volunteer drivers to enable the service to continue.

Volunteers are generally asked to drive for two or three mornings each month and can choose the mornings that suit their availability.

Drivers are required to hold the appropriate driving licence entitlement and must meet the eligibility requirements for driving the minibus. Appropriate driver training is provided.

If you would be interested in becoming a volunteer driver, or would simply like to find out more about what is involved, please contact Fiona Moody.

Even a small commitment of a few mornings each month can make an important contribution towards maintaining this valuable community service.

Community Bus Hire

In addition to its regular passenger service, the Community Bus is available for hire by eligible registered businesses, clubs and societies associated with the parishes and communities of Hartlip, Stockbury, South Green and Yelsted.

The minibus has 17 seats, including the driver's seat, and has wheelchair access, making it suitable for group outings and other organised journeys.

Groups hiring the vehicle are required to provide an appropriately qualified driver and fuel.

Current published hire charges are:

Morning, afternoon or evening – £60 plus fuel
Full day – £100 plus fuel

A refundable deposit of £250 is required for all hires, subject to the terms and conditions of hire being met.

For availability, eligibility and full hire conditions, please contact the Community Bus before making arrangements.
