🚗 SPEEDING – THE NUMBERS ARE CONCERNING
Our recent Community Speed Watch sessions have highlighted just how serious speeding is on our roads.
Across just 3 hours of monitoring, 25 vehicles were recorded speeding — around one every 7 minutes.
- 10 were travelling up to 49 mph
- 14 were travelling between 50–59 mph
- 1 was travelling at 62 mph
- 60% were travelling at 50 mph or more
At 62 mph, a driver is travelling 55% faster than the 40 mph speed limit.
These aren't just numbers. Speed can have devastating consequences. In a recent UK case, a driver travelling at more than 60 mph in a 30 mph residential area lost control and crashed into a lamp post. Speed limits aren't targets — they are there to protect everyone using our roads.
Please slow down. Arriving a little later is always better than not arriving at all.

A huge thank you to all volunteers who took part in our very first Community Speedwatch Watch for Woodseaves on the A529.
Over the course of an hour, we recorded 5 vehicles at 46 mph or above with one vehicle recorded at 58mph, in the 40 mph zone.
The scheme is to encourage everyone to drive within the speed limit. Feedback suggests that motorists visibly slow down when they see the volunteers by the roadside carrying out speed monitoring.
By working together, we can raise awareness, promote safer driving, and make our streets safer for everyone.
