Rights of Way

Some of our Parish Councillors were hard at work again this Monday on the Sutton Farm to Colehurst Bridleway path installing a kissing gate and and path gate.

There is one more kissing gate to install then the whole path will be stile free and provide easier access.

This is fantastic news as it enables more people to be able to access the beautiful countryside we have on our doorstep more easily.

Thanks to all those involved for their hard work.  If anyone has read these posts and would like to get involved on future projects, please do get in touch with us via suttonparishcouncil@hotmail.co.uk.

June 2023

The team has been hard at it again with the help of the Shropshire Rights of Way team on the 18th November. Despite the challenge of difficult underfoot muddy conditions, they replaced two stiles for new metal pedestrian gates on the path from Sutton Farm on Sutton Lane which goes towards the Colehurst Bridleway.

They have agreement from the landowners to put these gates in along the whole length of the path, making it easier access for all. They will be focusing on completing these in the coming months.

Great news and great work.  Thank you!

November 2022

The footpaths team have been hard at work again around the parish replacing two old, partly broken stiles with new self-close metal kissing gates on the footpath at Suttonheath farm that joins the Colehurst bridleway.

There is loads more work planned over the coming months so please do get in touch at suttonparishcouncil@hotmail.co.uk if you are interested in volunteering to help on further projects.

Great work – thanks to all those involved!

October 2022

Sutton Upon Tern Parish Council, with the assistance of the Market Drayton footpaths team, were busily tidying up and fixing some footpaths and stiles around the parish this week.

They replaced the broken step on the Sutton Lane side of the path to Pell Wall (before and after photos below). They also placed some way markers, to mark the route of the path more clearly, from the horse riding arena side.

Between there and the Sutton road side was quite overgrown with brambles so the Market Drayton team strimmed and cut it all back with hedge trimmers.

They also cleared the overgrown stiles between Sandy Lane and Sutton Lane, as one end in particular was pretty much inaccessible (last two photos below).

It was an excellent start with plenty more work identified so if anyone would like to offer their assistance, all help would be gratefully welcomed.  If you do wish to help, please get in contact with us at suttonparishcouncil@hotmail.co.uk.
