Sports Council Policies

It is a requirement for Sporting organisations to hold and maintain a set of policies

Sport England's policies for clubs and societies focus on safeguardingequalityinclusion, and good governance. Operating under their 10-year Uniting the Movement strategy, they mandate that grassroots organizations and clubs adopt specific standards to ensure safe, accessible, and well-managed environments for participants of all backgrounds.

Sport England Recommend -

The core policy requirements and guidance areas for local clubs and societies should include:

  • Safeguarding and Welfare: Policies must protect children and vulnerable adults. Many sports require affiliated clubs to have named welfare officers, clear reporting procedures for concerns, and mandatory training for staff and volunteers.
  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI): Clubs must promote equal opportunity and aim to be inclusive of all backgrounds, tackling inequalities linked to gender, disability, and socio-economic status.
  • Good Governance: A well-run club must have robust structures. If your club receives funding or is seeking to affiliate with a National Governing Body (NGB), you will need to meet standardized criteria covering conduct, accountability, and financial transparency.
  • Health & Safety: Clubs are obligated to maintain risk assessments, safe equipment, and appropriate volunteer/staff training to guarantee member safety.
  • Photography & Filming: Clubs should ensure management and parents are aware of the guidelines for filming and taking photographs of participants especially minors. Photography and filming in sports and activities
