Kent County Council has refused to rule out that further cuts to essential services are back on the table, and this includes our local Household Waste & Recycling Centres in Deal/Richborough and Dover.

These sites are not luxuries. They are core infrastructure that residents, small businesses, and rural villages rely on every single week. When access to recycling centres is reduced, the consequences are predictable and costly:

  • longer travel distances
  • higher fuel costs for families
  • reduced recycling rates
  • increased pressure on already-busy sites
  • and a serious risk of rising fly-tipping across East Kent

Closing or scaling back these centres simply shifts costs onto communities, district councils, and the environment. It does not save money in the long term, and recent reporting shows KCC is now actively reviewing “everything,” including potential HWRC closures (KentOnline link below).

That’s why we’re launching a district-wide campaign to protect our local sites and demonstrate just how vital they are to the people who use them.

If you support keeping our recycling centres open and accessible, please take a moment to add your name to the petition:

Every response strengthens the case we put to KCC.

Every name helps show the scale of public concern.

And together, we can send a clear message: East Kent will not accept cuts that cost more than they save.
