Recreation Trust

About Dalwood Recreation Trust

Dalwood Recreation Trust (DRT) is run by a small group of local volunteers. The current trustees are:
Shelagh Fernley – Chair, Sue Cooper – Vice-Chair, John Langman – Treasurer, Shaun Burns, Brian Eddy, Lorna Gould, Sarah Hobson, Hilary Horley, Kathy Laing, Graham Perry, Adam Smith, Geoff Sutton

The DRT meets six times a year and is seeking to appoint a new secretary to the board.

Purpose
DRT seeks to provide, maintain, and develop a playing field with equipment and facilities for diverse sporting and recreational activities, including:

  • Table tennis, football, cricket, basketball, netball
  • Picnic area and Pavilion for social and recreational activities

  • Adds to the community’s facilities
  • Provides access for community and sports activities
  • Offers formal, informal, and recreational social opportunities
  • Supports health, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging
  • Encourages volunteering and social engagement
  • Improves access to sport and recreation at a local level
  • Reduces rural isolation and enhances sustainability

History
The current facilities were commissioned by the Dalwood community after the closure of Dalwood Primary School.

  • Field and Pavilion were purchased from Devon County Council at reduced rates following successful fundraising events and donations.
  • Essential renovations of the Pavilion began in 2013, providing accessible access and toilets, refurbishments, and audio/visual equipment.

Fundraising and Community Involvement
DRT’s income from hire fees and fundraising events covers the costs of insurances, upkeep of equipment, and utilities. Successful community events include:

  • Krazy Kricket, Plant Sales, Family Picnic, Big Breakfast, Car Wash, and Raffles
