Parish Council

Roads and Highways

It is two years since Droxford Parish Council installed the white entrance gates at each entry point to the village. These gates were the first phase of a wider Highways improvement plan for Droxford. Their purpose is simple but important: to remind drivers that they are entering a village environment and to encourage them to slow down and “drive carefully”, as the message on the gates clearly states.

Since the gates were installed, the Parish Council has continued to work with local residents to explore further ways of improving road safety. We have carried out a number of consultations within the village to understand people’s concerns and to gather suggestions for additional measures that could help make our roads safer for everyone.

Following these consultations, we have successfully worked with Hampshire Highways to gain approval for four locations across the village where Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) can be installed. Many residents will already be familiar with the SID that has been used in the village over the past few years. Until now, however, this device has been rented rather than owned by the Parish Council.

Our longer-term plan has always been to purchase our own devices so that they can be used more regularly around the village. SIDs not only remind drivers of the speed limit as they pass, but also collect useful data on traffic volume and speed which can help inform future decisions about road safety measures.

We are therefore very pleased to report that, after applying for funding at the end of last year, our grant application has been successful. Donna Jones, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, has approved funding for two new SID devices. These will be used across the four approved locations, allowing us to rotate them around the village and extend their coverage.

Looking ahead, the Parish Council will continue working with residents and Hampshire Highways to explore further opportunities to improve road safety in Droxford. We remain committed to making our village roads as safe as possible for everyone — whether you are walking, cycling, riding or driving through Droxford.

Greening Campaign

The Parish Council was fortunate in being donated 6 disease resistant elm trees from the Hampshire Forest Partnership, as part of Hampshire County Council’s Million Trees Challenge.

Hampshire Forest Partnership received a grant from the Nature for Climate Fund to give away over 300 large standard trees to communities for free. All of these trees are very important as they have been bred by scientists to resist Dutch Elm disease and as a result will not succumb to the disease and should grow into large successful specimens.

Currently the English elm dies when it reaches a certain height due to the Dutch elm disease, so they never become mature. Sadly, the white-letter hairstreak butterfly is now endangered as they rely on these trees as their sole food supply, but they must be mature trees.

Four of the trees have been planted in the Recreation Ground and the remainder will be planted in the next few weeks. We hope that this will leave a special legacy for future generations in Droxford.

The Parish Council is planning to install two Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVCPs) in the Square. More information will be available in the coming months, but if you have any comments or thoughts in the meantime, please contact Louise (cllr.louise.hudson@droxfordparishcouncil.gov.uk).

The Greening Home Energy Event on 24th February was a source of useful information and included a fascinating talk about the future of energy from Bean Beanland, Director for Growth and External Affairs for the Heat Pump Federation. Anyone interested should listen to The Happy Heat Pump Podcast with Evan Davis.

Finally, Droxford Greening Campaign would like to set up a Repair Cafe. Anyone interested in helping, please contact Louise, details as above.

As always, the Parish Council is happy to hear from residents – please do get in touch if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Droxford Parish Council Moves to a New GOV.UK Website and Email Addresses

Droxford Parish Council is pleased to announce that its website has recently been updated and can now be found on a new gov.uk address. Alongside this change, the Parish Council has also moved to new gov.uk email addresses, providing a more secure, reliable and recognisable way for residents to access information and contact the Council.

This move brings Droxford Parish Council in line with best practice for local councils and makes it clearer for residents to identify official Parish Council information online.

A Website for the Community

The Parish Council website is designed to be a central hub of information for the community. It brings together a wide range of local information in one place, making it easier for residents to stay informed and involved.

On the website, you can find:

  • Parish Council meetings
Agendas, minutes and meeting dates are published so residents can see what is being discussed and decided, even if they are unable to attend in person.
  • News and announcements
Updates on local issues, parish projects, consultations and important notices affecting Droxford and the surrounding area.
  • Local services and contacts
Information about who to contact for different matters, including links to District and County Council services.
  • Planning information
Details of local planning applications and guidance on how residents can view or comment on them.
  • Policies and documents
Key Parish Council documents, policies and reports are available for anyone who wishes to read them.
  • Community information
Useful links and information relating to local organisations, facilities and events that help support village life.

Easier and More Secure Communication

The introduction of new gov.uk email addresses means residents can be confident they are contacting the Parish Council through an official and secure channel. These addresses also make it clearer which emails are genuinely from the Parish Council, improving trust and security.

Staying Connected

The updated website is intended to grow and evolve, reflecting what matters to the community. Residents are encouraged to visit the site regularly, use it as a reference point for local information and get in touch with the Parish Council using the new email addresses whenever they have questions, ideas or concerns.

By moving to a gov.uk website and email system, Droxford Parish Council is strengthening communication, improving transparency and making local information more accessible for everyone in the parish.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the website, or any other matter, please do get in touch. We are always happy to hear from you.
