At the Annual General Meeting of the Shropshire Association of Local Councils (SALC) on the 3rd November 2023, Rodington Parish Council received the Jan Snell Award for their action on climate and nature recovery.

Speaking at the annual ceremony on behalf of the Parish Council, Mr Furnival (Parish Clerk) said "The Parish Council adopted it’s climate and nature action plan in 2022. This plan was developed in conjunction with local residents, Councillors and some industry experts and sets out the ambitions of the Council to properly tackle the climate and nature crisis in any way that we can in our corner of Shropshire.

We did not want this to be a document that ticks a box, but really make it into a living plan that has practical actions that we can deliver on.”

The award was specifically awarded for the work that has gone into the Rodington Community Orchard and The President of SALC Katrina Baker MBE said, "We felt that this nomination was such a strong one that represents action and community cohesion, and we are proud to be giving this award for such a project that represents these qualities so well."

Mr Furnival continued "The work to develop this piece of land into such a thriving community orchard has seen its challenges, but the growing team of volunteers that turn up week in-week out have made it so successful. And all this work would not have been achievable without the leadership and vision of Tom Hayek, a local resident and ecologist that we are so lucky to have secured the volunteer support of. Despite his busy work schedule, he's been able to develop this plan and the orchard in such a positive manner and is supported by a brilliant team of local volunteers who make it all very worthwhile."

Rodington Parish Council add this award to their catalogue including the Jan Snell Award 2020, Bronze Employer Recognition Award 2021, and Quality Council Foundation Award 2023.
