Knock-Out Competitions

There are several knock-out competitions. Entries for the knockout competitions are open between December and April, in advance of the start of season. A draw is then held on one of the club social evenings around the time the green is re-opened for play.

  • The Ladies Handicap Pairs (The Mary Barron Trophy) - open to all female playing members, pairs are selected by the Competition Secretary to provide an even combined handicap.
  • The Open Handicap Singles (The Leeds Cup) - open to all male and female playing members. Players with a lower handicap are given a point advantage equal to the opposition players handicap minus their handicap. The maximum handicap in the club is 8, the minimum handicap for a new outdoor bowler is 1, therefore the maximum advantage is 7.

  • The Open Over 65s Singles (The Reg Girling Veterans Trophy) - open to all male and female players over the age of 65.
  • The Open Handicap Pairs (The Kerridge Cup) - open to all male and female playing members, entrants will be matched into pairs by the competition secretary to provide an even combined handicap.
  • The Mixed Pairs (The Mann Cup) - open to all male and female playing members, members should agree their own partner, each pair must include one male and one female partner.
  • The Open Mixed Triples (The Eddie Bennett Cup) - open to all male and female playing members, members should agree their own team, but each team must include at least one male and one female playing member.
  • The Singles Plate Competition (The Arthur Cup) - open to all players knocked out in the first competitive round of play for the season, in any singles competition.

Day Competitions

In addition to the knock-out competitions, there are a number of day competitions. In the day competitions, all the preliminary rounds / matches that decide those progressing to the final will take place on a single day, usually a Saturday or Sunday, and the dates will be available in the club calendar.

The available day competitions are;

The results from those games are entered into a league table and the top two teams will progress to the play-off on finals weekend.
  • Open Handicap Triples (The Shepherd Cup) - open to all male and female playing members, entrants are formed into teams by the competition secretary to provide an even handicap among the triples.
