Craven Arms Town Council News

The Council considered the Precept requirement for the financial year 2018/19. The Clerk had provided details of the Councils estimated balances and the end of March 2018 and details of the Income and Expenditure for the Financial Year 2018/19.

The Clerk highlighted the following issues: Shropshire Council will no longer be providing an Environment Grant which resulted in a loss of income of £2,265, the provision of £500 for the introduction and monitoring of the new Data Protection Regulations May 2018, the commitment to supporting local services and the transfer of any local services from Shropshire Council and the upkeep of existing equipment and facilities, Public Conveniences, Skate Park/MUGA, BMX Track, Bus Shelters, Benches, Notice Boards, Planters for which no reserve monies had been identified.

All members were given an opportunity to make their comments about the level of increase in the Precept amount.

It was proposed by Cllr D Evans and seconded by Cllr S Demos that the precept should be increased by £7,000, Cllr M Trafford proposed an amendment seconded by Cllr N Carter that the precept should be increased by £8,000, Cllr A J Willets proposed amendment that the precept should be increased by £3,000 seconded by Cllr R Conway.

The amended proposal for an annual increase in the precept by £3,000 was voted 2 For and 7 Against and was therefore lost.

The amended proposal for an annual increase of £8,000 was voted 5 For and 4 Against and was therefore carried with the result that the Annual precept for 2018/19 will be increased from £48,185 to £56,185.
