02/03/19: Liberty Trophy: Devon v Berkshire (Bournemouth)

Devon miss out on final place by 1 shot losing to Berkshire on Saturday 2nd March played at Bournemouth IBC.

Unfortunately the Bournemouth carpet was extremely heavy unlike any in our County, but as the say its the same for both sides.

As you can imagine the match ebbed and flowed throughout and with one end to play the game was all square; however it was Berkshire who took the honours and make the final.

Thanks to all the players for there efforts through the season.

having lost 107-123.

competition.

On Sunday 10 February Devon played Oxfordshire in the Under 25 National Double Rink at Bristol City & County Club.

Devon made a tremendous start and after 10 ends were leading by 34-12. Over the next 5/6 ends Devon unfortunately lost focus which gave the opportunity to Oxfordshire to stage a recovery and therefore instead of Devon perhaps winning the match early and even more convincingly the final score was 51-35 to Devon.

The two rinks were Kieran Daniels, Ryan Clements, Will Stevens and James Hampton and Scott Eveleigh, Sean Howard, Kieran Kniveton and Harry Goodwin.

Devon have now reached the semi-final stage and will play Kent on the 10 March at a venue to be agreed.

Wiltshire never recovered from that Devon surge and at 15 ends Devon were 20 shots up 91-71. With the match coming to its conclusion and not all ends being played Devon won 123-94. 20/09/18: President's success v Bowls Devon President

The first of the new season's President's matches resulted in a win for President Chris Beer and his team at South Molton.

Overall score was 100-76 with the DCIBA President's team winning 4 rinks to 2.

By a quirk of the fixture scheduling President Chris had the advantage of playing on his (until recently) home outdoor green. Another co-incidence was that Bowls Devon President Mike Birch was the 2016-17 DCIBA President. And yet another striking feature of this match was that the current Bowls England President Bill Smith turned out for Bowls Devon and featured on their highest winning rink.

Weather was rotten, bowls tea superb. Banter up to the usual standard as might be expected with so many players belonging to both associations. Return match 27/2/19.
