Note from our Chairman Derek Purcicoe

Cllr. Laughton informed me today that there has been pre application advice sought from Notts County Council for a 200,000 tonne per year general waste incinerator on the former colliery site in Bilsthorpe.
A previous application for a Gasification incinerator (Approx. 100,000 tonnes per year) had been approved after a judicial review had taken place, this incinerator was never built due to failings in the technology at other sites.
The Bilsthorpe action group RAGE (Residents Against Gasification Experiment) who fought the previous application had a meeting this evening which Bruce and I attended.
It is expected that an application will be put forward shortly, the 200,000 tonnes of general waste will mean an increase of about 10,000 lorry movements per year on an already stretched local road network and may have an impact on the proposed A614 improvement scheme. There is also the environmental impact as well as the impact on Bilsthorpe and surrounding villages.
There is a follow up meeting arranged for Tuesday 21st March at 6pm in Bilsthorpe Welfare where amongst other items, they will be discussing - Community ideas, volunteers./membership & actions.

From Bilstorpe Parish Council Facebook page

Last nights meeting of the RAGE against the Incinerator proposals in Bilsthorpe was very informative , it was good to see Councillors from Bilsthorpe Parish Council, Eakring Parish Council and Farnsfield Parish Council and County Councillor Bruce Laughton at the meeting. It was great to be able to chat to those residents who came along and to share our concerns over this.
A huge thank you to the RAGE committee members for allowing us to take the floor for an update from Bruce and confirmation of our support to help fight this proposed planning application for a much larger Incinerator plant.
I will post an update as soon as I know anything further
