2025 News

November 2025 Updates:

  • A reminder that the Parish Council has arranged for the use of a Thermal Imaging camera for a week at the end of November and the beginning of February. This will allow us to take images that show the thermal efficiency of houses - effectively where heat is being lost. This will be undertaken by a representative of the Parish Council, and will be open to all parish residents. Contract the Clerk to register your interest on a first come first served basis.
  • We’ve received several resident concerns about local footpaths and traffic. Please be assured that we’re taking these matters forward with Suffolk Highways for further consideration.
  • At our last meeting, we began discussions on the 2026/27 budget. These will continue at our next meeting. We also reviewed and formally adopted the Council’s governance documents.
  • We are pleased to announce that the Parish Council has agreed to donate £100 to the Citizens Advice, which does a fantastic job supporting our community.
  • Members agreed to the purchase of a new notice board for the Homestead Park estate. The only decision remaining is its exact location – watch this space!

October 2025 Updates:

  • The Parish Council have transferred CIL funds to Stonham Aspal Village Hall to support essential floor repairs. This contribution from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) will help ensure the hall remains a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained space for all who use it.
  • The Parish Council are pleased to support this important improvement for the benefit of the village. The external audit for the financial year 2024/25 is fully completed. Reports are now available to view on our website under the Finance section.

September 2025 Updates:

  • Parishioners may have noticed that the notice board at Mill Green has now been beautifully repaired. A big THANK YOU to the Debenham Shed for their excellent work!
  • Looking ahead, we're hoping to install a new notice board at Homestead Park — watch this space for updates.
  • Our local MP, Patrick Spencer, would like to host a session to meet with residents. These events are a valuable opportunity to raise local concerns and hear about ongoing initiatives. Keep an eye out for more details soon.
  • A new definitive map is now available and will be included in the People & Place Plan. We’ll also be posting it on parish notice boards for everyone to view.
  • We had a fantastic time at the open event for the new football ground, and we hope you did too! We’re excited to support our local teams and enjoy the clubhouse facilities. Please continue to support your local venues.

July 2025 Updates:

  • Good news - the Village Hall is now equipped with broadband, thanks to funding support from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
  • The Parish Council approved an additional contribution from our CIL funds, towards the much-needed replacement of the Village Hall floor. The exact amount will be agreed once the Village Hall Committee has investigated opportunities for contributions from a couple of other possible sources of funding.
  • You may have seen notices regarding the ‘Taxi Bus’. Information about the service will be included in the People and Place Plan, which is an informative document for parishioners.
  • The first couple of months data from our 4 Speed Indicator Device locations has shown average speeds off: 31.3mph at Stonham Barns, 29.0mph on Scott’s Hill, 27.5mph at The Street and 25.4mph in Mill Green. This feels in-line with the locations, with Stonham Barns coming off of a 50mph stretch and Mill Green being a much narrower road. More data will be published each month.

June 2025 Updates:

  • We are excited to share that some of the CIL income has been used to help support the social side of the club for the newly refurbished Stonham Aspal Football Club.
  • We now have 2 Speed Indicator Devices and 4 locations for them - outside Stonham Barns, The Street, Scott’s Hill and Mill Green. The devices will be circulated between the locations, and after a few months of data has been collected we will share this with the Parish
  • The 2024/25 internal audit is complete, and the Governance Accountability Return has been approved. This audit, conducted by external auditors, is important to ensure that the Parish Council is complying with its legal and financial obligations. Documents will soon be available on our website.
  • At the June Parish Council meeting, various governance documents were reviewed and approved, which are available to view on our website.

May 2025 Updates:

  • The People and Place Plan is a living document which can be viewed on the Parish Council website https://stonhamaspal.onesuffolk.net/assets/CIL-Working-Party-files/SAPC-PPP V1.0.pdf. We encourage everyone to have a look at the document, and forward any comments to: sapc.clerk@yahoo.co.uk.
  • Councillors were recently invited to tour the new football club facility and were very impressed with the development. We look forward to seeing activity at the site, hopefully over the summer months.
  •  The Annual Parish Meeting was held on May 6th, 2025. It provided an opportunity to hear updates from the Parish Council and various village organisations about their activities over the past year, as well as to listen to feedback and ideas from parishioners.

April 2025 Updates:

  • The People and Place Plan has now been posted on the Parish Council website https://stonhamaspal.onesuffolk.net/assets/CIL-Working-Party-files/SAPC-PPP-V1.0.pdf. This is an important milestone for the Parish, but the full value of such a document is only realised as we get further input from our Parish residents. To this end, we encourage everyone to have a look at the document, and forward their thoughts about it (particularly how we should now develop our longer term plans) to: sapc.clerk@yahoo.co.uk."
  • A big thank you to those using the dog fouling bins. We ask that you please take the waste home with you if the bins are full.
  • The Annual Parish Meeting will take place on May 6th, 2025, at 6:30 PM. It's an opportunity to hear updates from the Parish Council and village organisations over the past year and to voice your opinions. The meeting will be followed by the Annual Parish Council Meeting at 7:30 PM.

March 2025 Updates:

  • It has come to the attention of the Parish Council that there is a scam email circulating, targeting local businesses. It states that the “Stonham Aspal Parish Business Directory listing for (your business name) expires in X days”, and provides a link to renew your membership. Please be aware that no such directory exists and this is a scam to attempt to obtain a renewal premium.
  • A draft of the People and Place Plan will be presented for review at the next Parish meeting on 1st April 2025.
  • We would like to remind our parishioners that the Annual Parish Meeting will be held on the 6th May 2025., more details to follow next month.

  • We are pleased to announce that we have been able to use some of the CIL income to partially fund the Village Hall broadband, which is great news!

February 2025 Updates:

  • Data from the village speed indicator device situated at Scotts HIll and A1120 have been analysed, results as follows:
    • Scotts Hill between August 24 to January 25, the average speed was 28.7 mph
    • A1120, between July 24 and January 25, the average speed was 27.3 mph
  • We have received notification of a road closure. The A1120 will be closed between 7th to 11th April 2025 to enable works for the new development at Homestead Park, with diversions in place.
  • The annual precept for 2025/26 has increased to £7,000 which gives the Parish a Council Tax Band D amount of £25.52 per year, an increase of 17.58% on 2024/25. These are the amounts that will be shown on your Council Tax Bill. The Parish Council have managed to hold an increase on precept for the past 5 years, despite inflation rises.

January 2025 updates:

  • Agreed the Precept at £7,000. Precept is the amount of money the Parish Council receives each year, which is a portion of your council tax payment. This pays for the day-to-day running of the Parish Council and the local amenities it provides or maintains each year
  • A first draft of the People & Place Plan will be available for discussion by the Parish Council in March. The People and Place Plan is a publicly available document which describes what is important to the broad Parish community, both now and in the future, in relation to a range of issues
