It’s very important for the Parish Council to get as much engagement and involvement from our residents as possible, to give our community a voice – we are here to represent and support you! 

By way of introduction.

• The Parish Council is made up of 7 councillors (all volunteers), one of whom is our Chair.  We are also supported by a Parish Council Clerk to take care of all the admin involved and help make sure we operate within the rules.
• We exist solely to represent and support the interests of the residents of the Parish.  Our aim is, within the powers that we are given, to make Stonham Aspal a great place to live.  We can do this by delivering services to meet local needs and supporting initiatives that improve quality of life and wellbeing.
• We must fully disclose any financial interest that we have in the Parish to both become, and remain, a Councillor.  This ensures we are impartial in our actions and decisions.
• A Parish Council is a recognised tier of local government, below the District Council and County Council.  As such, our finances, processes, decisions, and actions are tightly controlled by law.
• We have two main streams of income.  The “Precept”, which is part of the Council Tax that we all pay, covers day to day running costs.  We also receive a Community Infrastructure Levy income from new building developments, which is to cover larger ad-hoc infrastructure projects.  A further stream of income is from the recycling bins in the Parish.
• One of our key roles is as a formal consultee on all planning applications in the Parish.

 

Please come along to one of our monthly Parish Council meetings, where parish residents are always welcome to attend. 

Parish Council Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the Month at 7pm, every Month except August and December.

In May, the Annual Assembly Meeting starts at 6:30pm and is then immediately followed by the Annual Parish Meeting at 7:30pm.
