Activities on the Field

 

The objects of the charity are to provide a recreation ground to be used and enjoyed as open public grounds for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Saxilby cum Ingleby and the adjoining Hamlet of Hardwick and for the rest and recreation of adults and as play grounds for children and youth being respectively Inhabitants of said Parish or Hamlet or one of them subject to the requirements of the founding document (the 1920 Indenture). 

In addition, the charity may ... (5) "let or hire the Recreation Ground or any part thereof at such rent and on such terms as they may think fit for the purposes of any Agricultural Horticultural or other show or Exhibition or for any athletic sports or competitions or for special football cricket or other matches or for fetes or galas or any other such purpose".

The field has been used for events, let to sports clubs, and occupied by other third parties; the following organisations use the field via a contract with the charity:

Organised football has been played on the field since 1921. The club signs an annual licence at the end of each August to use the grounds for football within the football season, utilising four pitches.  At present, there are twelve teams using the field for matches and for practice.  The maintenance of the pitches and provision of goals is the responsibility of the football club.

2.    Saxilby Cricket Club. https://www.facebook.com/SaxilbyCricket/

Organised cricket has been played on the field since 1921. The club holds a 25-year 'insure and repair' lease for the area containing its non-turf wicket and practice nets, alongside a licence to use the main field for matches. Maintenance of both the oval and the leased land falls to the cricket club.

Lawn bowls has been played on the field for over a century. The club holds a 25-year 'insure and repair' lease covering the bowling green and hut.

4.    Saxilby Tennis Club. https://www.saxilbytennisclub.co.uk/history

Tennis has been played on the field since 1921, with the current club established in 1925. The club holds a 25-year 'insure and repair' lease covering the four courts.

5b. Saxilby Scouts and Guides Association (SSGA).    https://saxilbyscoutsandguides.org/

A Scout building has been on the field since 1955. Saxilby Scout and Guide Association (SSGA) operates the Jean Reville Memorial Hall and garage under a 30-year 'insure and maintain' lease. The Scout and Guide groups hold separate annual licences to use the field for their activities.

6.    Saxilby with Ingleby Parish Council   https://saxilby-ingleby.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/

The Parish Council holds 25-year 'insure and maintain' leases for both the St Andrews Community Centre and the outer play facilities, which comprise the children's play area, skate park, and floodlit play area with its newly completed, fenced mini-MUGA.

In addition to housing council offices, the library, a bar, two function rooms, and team changing rooms, the field is also hired annually for the Saxilby Fun Day.

7.   Lincolnshire County Council (Saxilby Primary School)

Saxilby Primary School hires a section of the field each year for its sports day.
