The Friends

The Work of the Friends

Once a month, twice in the summer, about a dozen willing volunteers meet to work in the gardens. Some will collect litter, others will work on the borders, weed and sweep paths or plant out shrubs, herbaceous perennials and wild flowers. In the Autumn we put in bulbs, over a thousand in 2019. We have created new flower beds and started a wildflower area.

Before Covid 19 put a halt to everything we had big plans for 2020. We hoped to renovate the grotto and surrounding area, install bat boxes and nesting boxes, set up a wild bird feeding station and create seating areas to take advantage of the sea views.

We did achieve some of these aims, the grotto has been repaired, the feeding station is up and running. The bird and bat boxes will have to wait until next spring.

There are now more benches in the Gardens and we have some funds to start repairing the walls that run down the gardens from the art gallery, although more may be needed.  The work does require specialist bricks which are proving difficult to source at present.
