Lost Architectural Features
The Gateposts:
At the entrance to the park near the Geology Museum were a set of impressive pillars, two of which were topped by sculptures of dolphins. The photograph shows them in 1960, but we have yet to discover when they were removed.
The Aviary
Just below the Municipal School (built in 1900) was an aviary.
Shelter
On the opposite side of the road from the lily pond was a shelter to protect visitors from the rain and wind. It burnt down and was never replaced.
Stone Arch
A small arched bridge connected the front lawn of Londesborough Lodge with the raised section of garden that is now the wildlife meadow. It became unsafe and was dismantled, but the stones are still in the gardens and form seats nearby.
Viewing Platform
A wooden viewing platform existed on the far side of the duck pond. The path passed underneath it and the platform was accessed from the top path that now runs below the old municipal school.
