Work Sessions 2022
January 23rd.
Eleven members cleared eleven bags of rubbish from the gardens. It was nice to meet Mick Couzens and learn about the work he does with the Keep Scarborough Tidy Group.
March 6th
Nine members did a litter pick yesterday morning in the Valley. It was a lovely morning and we able to admire the spring bulbs and flowers as we collected litter. You would imagine that the park would have been pristine this morning, but no. All along the side of the road were empty cartons and paper bags where visitors had just emptied the contents of their cars onto the path before they headed home.
March 27th
On Sunday 27th March, five members collected litter, put in wildflower plants in the area above the urn bed, weeded the small rockery, pruned some hydrangeas, prepared a seed bed for the wildflower meadow and cleared soil from the path near the grotto.
On the previous Wednesday three members planted trees in the park.
April 24th
On Sunday 24th April, eight members and Hardy the dog tidied up the Woodend borders, removed vast amounts of wild garlic from the long shade border and collected litter.
May 15th
Six volunteers litter picked, removed yet more wild garlic from the shade border, planted foxgloves and cut back penstemons, cotoneaster and buddleia in the shrub bed near the Crescent.
June 12th
Last Sunday seven members finally managed to clear all the wild garlic from the shade border. It's looking good. We also collected lots of litter. It's that time of the year when people sit in the park but leave their rubbish behind.
June 26th
On Sunday six of us and Harper collected litter and tidied up the shrub borders near the Crescent entrance.
July 10th
On Sunday eight of us and Harper tidied up the long border above the pond. We filled eight bags with weeds and a further four bags with litter.
We also welcomed Marie to our group and it was good to see Beverley again.
July 31st

August 21st
Eight members collected litter, and tidied up the Woodend flowerbeds and the shade border and planted lots of Verbena Bonariensis.
September 11th
Five members put plants into the shade border and removed three wheelbarrow loads of weeds and brambles from the edge of the scalloped beds.
October 2nd
Seven members cleared abandoned clothes and camping equipment and put in daffodil, crocus, allium and anemone bulbs across a number of areas of the Gardens.
November 13th
Nine members cleared litter and leaves from paths and borders as well as planting ferns and foxgloves that had been donated to us by Susan Harrison and Eric Hewes. I also planted a Rosemary plant, donated by Susan, in the shrub borders near the Crescent entrance.
