Linton Walkers

The Linton Walkers are walking again! .. Here is our latest walks schedule

Linton has an active walking group that meets every week, almost throughout the year ... at present, suitably socially distanced!

On every other Thursday morning at 11am there is a weekly walk. In addition, we have a full programme of evening walks, each Tuesday evening.

On the first Sunday of every month throughout the year, we run a somewhat longer monthly walk of between 6-8 miles or so which starts at 11.00 am and involves a half way stop at a suitable pub or village. for these we usually go a little further afield but they will typically be within a 30 minute drive of Linton. [NB: these walks are currently suspended, but watch this space!]

In addition to the weekly and monthly walks, we also organise the annual Linton Parish Boundary Walk. This takes place on Rogation Sunday, which in 2021 is on Sunday 9th May. Please support this walk – it is a long-standing Linton tradition, which we are working hard to keep going. [This walk WILL take place ... starting from the Linton Church Car Park, 10.30am prompt! More details from Jerry Whitmarsh]

We also have a Summer Outing.. once a year we head off to somewhere exotic! [Watch this space!]

Finally, we have an annual Walkers dinner in a local restaurant or pub.. [Tuesday 30 November 2021. A decision about whether to go ahead, and if so where, nearer the time]

All of our walks involve a donation of £1 per head, in aid of the Friends of Linton Church and similar local worthy causes. In 2018 we raised £1,408 – all at £1 per walk – and were able to donate money to various charities including the Friends of Linton Church, to the Church itself, to Buttercups Goat Sanctuary, and to the Friends of Boxley Church (in memory of Jenetta Cassidi), amongst other beneficiaries. [£1,273 in 2019; 2020 - not so much!]

The wonderful thing about these walks is how many good things they do, all at once:

– they get us out of doors into the fresh air and contribute to a healthy lifestyle
– they show us how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The views across the Weald from Linton are fabulous!
– they show us the ins and outs of our local footpaths, fields and beauty spots – places you never knew were there, perhaps only a mile from your own home..
– there is a strong social element to the walks. Numbers vary from week to week, but we are a friendly group and there is always someone to talk to, or not as you choose.. often we end up in a pub, but at least we will have earned our drink!
Why not give it a try? Contact David or Peter - or just turn up to any walk.
All the walks are organised by David Hill, Peter Goodhew or Jerry Whitmarsh. Click on their name, to contact them by email. They are happy to provide more details or answer questions on request.
