Maldon C v Maldon A -This was always going to be an interesting encounter and so it proved to be.
Peter Brazier, Barry McDonagh, Ken Varney and Tony Wallis, playing against Peter Saunders, Phil Arnold, Maurice Willett and Roger Little, got off to a flying start and after 7 ends were leading 16 - 0. But then things changed. Maldon A came right back in to the match and won 6 of the next 7 ends to bring the score to 18 - 12. But then Maldon C pulled away to win 26 - 13.
A similar story with Maldon C’s other rink. Dave Torrice, William Wallis, Colin Wall and Kevin Cornwell against Geoff Cox, John Rawlinson , Richard Walker and Sheila Wright, were in control from the first end and after 12 ends had a comfortable lead of 20 shots to 7. Four ends later and the score was 20 - 17, with Maldon A scoring 6 shots on the sixteenth end. Maldon A hung on to win 24 - 18.
So a victory to Maldon C by 50 shots to 31. Commiserations to Maldon A but an excellent game on both rinks with both teams playing very well.
