Our Club

Maldon Bowling Club was formed in 1908 and is situated in Park Drive, near The Promenade Park in Maldon. The Club's first green was in the garden of a founding member in London Road. It moved to its present site during the 1950s and, in the early 1990s, was extended to its current size. The green itself was maintained by Maldon District Council until the winter of 2020/21 with a group of dedicated Club Members ensuring that the very pleasant surroundings were maintained to a very high standard throughout the year. This group, ably led by playing member and club stalwart Mark Piper, has now taken over the maintenance of the green from the Council - for more detail see Recent Developments. There is ample parking within the Club's grounds.

The Club has a playing membership of around 90 with bowling abilities ranging from novice to international standard. On Tuesday evenings we have three teams playing in the mixed Central Mid-Week League and, on Wednesday evenings, we have three teams playing in the men's Chelmsford & District League. Mixed friendly matches take place on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. On Wednesday afternoons our ladies play a full programme of friendly fixtures.

In addition to these organised fixtures, a number of 'roll-ups' take place throughout the week and all playing members have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of internal and external competitions.

The green and clubhouse are open for the majority of the week throughout the April to September playing season, depending on need, and the clubhouse is open on Friday evenings throughout the entire year for members wishing to have a drink and a chat or to play cards.

The Club is affiliated to Bowls England, the Essex County Bowling Association, the Essex County Women's Association, the Chelmsford & District Bowling Association and the Chelmsford Mid-Week Bowling League.
