Defibrillators
Defibrillators in the Parish
Defibrillators (AEDs) are life‑saving devices used when a person is in cardiac arrest. They are designed to be used by members of the public and provide clear, spoken instructions to guide users through each step.
Having rapid access to a defibrillator, alongside early CPR and a 999 call, can significantly improve survival rates following cardiac arrest.
What to Do in an Emergency
If someone collapses and is unconscious and not breathing normally:
- Call 999 immediately (or ask someone else to call)
- Start CPR
- Send someone to fetch the nearest defibrillator
- Follow the instructions on the defibrillator
- Continue CPR until the device tells you to stop or emergency services arrive
If you are unsure where the nearest defibrillator is located, the 999 operator can advise you.
Training and Use
- Defibrillators are designed to be safe and intuitive, and will not deliver a shock unless it is needed
- The Parish Council supports the maintenance of parish defibrillators and promotes training opportunities for residents and workers
- Some manual models should only be operated by individuals who have received appropriate training
No one will be criticised for attempting to help in an emergency.
