Playing Fields

Puncknowle Playing Field

Puncknowle Playing Field is a much‑loved community space that has been enjoyed by generations of local residents. It provides an important place for play, recreation, and outdoor activity, helping to support the health and wellbeing of people of all ages within the village.

The current playing field has served the community since the 1960s. Before this, local children played football on land in Looke Lane, now used as allotments. The site of today’s playing field was originally acquired by the local authority in the early 1950s and was later transferred into the ownership of Puncknowle and Swyre Parish Council in 2004, ensuring its long‑term protection for community use.

The Parish Council manages the playing field through its Playing Field Committee, which oversees the site on a regular basis. Independent safety inspections are carried out each quarter, with maintenance, repairs, and improvements organised throughout the year. Much of the day‑to‑day care—such as cleaning, clearing overgrowth, and repainting equipment—is carried out by committee members and volunteers.

The playing field is a valued village asset, and community involvement plays an important role in its upkeep. Residents are warmly encouraged to take part in volunteer sessions when advertised, helping to preserve and enhance this space for current and future generations. Anyone with suggestions, comments, or an interest in volunteering is invited to contact the Parish Clerk.
