Reports Basildon 'A'

2026 Match Reports

22nd April, away v Wickford Memorial 5-2 league points 70-37 shots.

Lovely warm, windless evening, and a good win on probably the best green we have played on so far. Nice tea and biscuits afterwards.

David L, David S and skip Brian , with excellent opponents and a fairly low scoring close game. 11-13 at end 15 then the match slipped away final score 11-18 - did the opponents also have the run of the bowls?

Marion, Graham and skip Jeff always in charge, the opponents only scoring on 6 ends.  Result 28-8

Scratch team Steve, Tony and skip Jean in a  big scores game, opponents scoring a 5 on the 2nd and 4 on the 8th end but Billericay a 4 and a 6 and loads of 2's. Final result a thumping 31-11

14th April, home v Castle Point 2-5 league points ,   32-58 shots.

Pleasant weather - the nasty dark cloud to the west did not quite make it to Billericay so we kept dry.   Well beaten by a better side

Marin, Graham and skip Jeff not far behind at half way (5-8), but the slight difference continued in a pretty close and low scoring game , final result 8-17

Jean, Tony and skip Val, many swinging ends and we were always behind , even 3 shots behind on the last end but then scoring a 4 to win by one shot. Well done to work hard and keep trying till the end  Final result 18-17

Joanne, David Sarbutt, and skip Darren, probably meeting the best opposition skip and well beaten, though only loosing one big score (a 5 on end 15) - final result 6-23

=======================================

7th April away, v Springhouse 2-5 league points 41-68 shots

Last minute changes with Jenny and Tony unfit to play and panics as Basildon's southern roads were blocked, making arrival on time impossible for some.  We were well beaten by a better side but somehow gained two league points on one weird swinging scores rink.  We have to do better overall if we are not going to slip down another division.

Marion, Graham and Jeff with an astonishing turn round.  Opponents leading 12-8 after the 13th end then our team scored 19 shots in the remaining 5 ends, including a 7 on the 17th to win 29-12.  Amazing and well done to keep your heads up.   Great skipping Jeff.

Joanne, David Sarbutt & Brian only scoring on 4 ends - simply nowhere near enough woods in the head compared to our opponents.  More consistency and accuracy needed.   Final score 8-31 shots

Jean, Darren and Val only managing to score on 3 ends - final result 6-25

30th April; home,  v Brentwood  4-3 league points; 46-57 shots

Holidays and a late withdrawal due to injury gave a problem.  Very fine cloudless evening, cold at the end.

Marion Lucas, Graham Brooker and Jeff Cassidy started well, 7 shots up in first two ends.  Ahead 10-6 at half way then second half shared  despite a 4 shot loss on the 14th. An 18-13 result.  Very well done for a new team.

Jean Lawrence, Tony and Val Dalton with another good start - 11-0 after 4 ends.  The opposition crept up helped by a 5 on the 14th but we just made it home, only vitally conceding just a 1 on the last - 19-18 result

David Lucas, Steve Nichols, Brian Hyland were thrashed; 1-17 at half way and a 9- 26 result - which meant Billericay lost the bonus point.  Very rarely enough woods in the head and Brian's saving skills deserted him.  Thanks to David for subbing Jenny on the day.
