Alice Pearl Banks was Sister (Aunt of Charlie Bateman)  in charge of the Agatha Stacey Home it  was part of the Monyhull hospital, situated in Eachway lane. Now a small estate - Stacey  Grange Gardens

Beacon Hill, Rubery

One of Britain's top pathologists, Professor James Webster lived in Beacon Hill, Rubery, in 1955 had been forced to retire on medical grounds. He had been involved with the Home Office Forensic Science Laboratory since it had been established in Birmingham and had assisted in countless criminal investigations. Among these had been the Lickey End murder in October 1944 and the wartime discovery of a skeleton in Hagley wood.

The advert comes from the Bromsgrove Messenger 8 August 1935, and of course still operates on Beacon Lane now -2019.

Golden Cross

The pub was formerly the Golden Cross,  the map dated 1883  shows the position of the Golden Cross, on the same corner but a little nearer Braces Lane. It has been a Toby Carvery & now is part of the Miller & Carter chain. 

"Golden Cross Lane is named after the 'Golden Cross '  that was situated on the corner of Braces Lane and Birmingham Road until its demolition in the 1930s. Today's mock period 'Marlbrook ' built in 1936 was originally called 'Golden Cross ' after the earlier inn." - A Place Called Catshill an Introduction to its History - Peter Howard Moble

This was originally called The Chalet, changed to become the Poacher's Pocket, then The Oak Tree and now Generous George.
