Postcards from the Lickey; Trams, fairs and Teas; Beacon Hill Drinking Fountains; Coronation Day 1953;

Elijah Walton’s watercolours of the area in the 1850s; Sir Granville Bantock, composer; The Roman Road;

The Great Court at Lickey; A model of the WW1 Bilberry Hill Gun Proof Range; the tithe map and other maps from our collection... and much more!

 

Warren Lane Quarry will be open for the WW1 Bilberry Hill Gun Proof Range & the Lickey geology.

Guided walks lasting 1½- 2 hours:

A Lickey History Walk: Saturday 16 at 11.30am

Lickey Geology ‘A Walk Through Time’: Sunday 17 at 11am

The Country Park’s WW1 & WW2 sites: Saturday & Sunday at 1.30pm

November 21: ‘Timber framed buildings - the original pre-fabs’ by Ian Bott.

Find out about the construction of the buildings that are common in our area.

 

December 12: ‘Christmas Songs through Ages’ by Richard Churchley.

From Boar's Head to Bing Crosby - a talk with live music and song. Plus mince pies and hot punch!

 

2024

January 16: The Origins & Development of HMP Birmingham’ by Professor Stephen Shute.

The history of imprisonment with special reference to Birmingham.

 

February 20: ‘King John: the Worst or Most Useful King?’ by Max Keen.
Find out whether King John’s bad reputation was deserved.

 

March 19: ‘Small Pits, Big Ideas: investigating Worcestershire’s Medieval Villages by Nina O’Hare
A Heritage Lottery Fund project on the origins of six villages through back garden archaeology.

 

April 16: ‘Broadway, Worcestershire's poshest village’ by Julian Hunt

A history of the village, from sheep rearing to the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’.

 

May 21: From Royal Palace to HM Prison’ by Anne Owen.

The history of Hewell Grange from 1042 to 2020.

Outing in May or June
