Recent Developments 20/21

The Club took a big step forward in the winter of 2020/21 in that we negotiated with Maldon District Council to maintain the Green ourselves. Thanks to Eric Dow who did an excellent job in the negotiations with the Council. With the help of the SUEZ Community Welfare Fund we were able to purchase a SISIS Supaturfman aerator and Dennis FT510 mower.

The new equipment arrived in the middle of January. A very thorough demonstration in the use and maintenance of the equipment was given by staff from Robert Dennis and SISIS, to a small number of members of the Club . We are fortunate to have a team of willing volunteers, led by club stalwart Mark Piper, who  have maintained the green for the past three years. Mark's enthusiasm for the work is obviously very infectious which probably has something to do with the fact that the physical effort involved works up a good old thirst. Mark was also responsible for obtaining the SUEZ grant which made it possible for the Club to purchase such quality equipment. Well done Mark - your efforts were, and are, very much appreciated.

The photographs below show (a) some of the new equipment and some of 'the local wildlife' learning to use it and (b) improvement already made.

Three seasons on and our Green is known throughout the County as being very good and the Club has hosted a number of prestigious matches.  We are very grateful for all the work Mark undertakes on the Green along with the many volunteers who assist him.

Mark Piper also won Green Keeper of the Year at the Bowls England National Awards in February 2024.
