Short Mat Leagues 2019-20

Reluctantly we have been forced to abandon the remaining Short Mat knockout competitions for 2019-20, as there is no chance of completing them before the beginning of this year's summer season.  Not all the league games were completed and in some cases the outstanding games could have changed the leading positions. However, we cannot play these games so it is only fair to declare the winners on the results of completed games.

                                      Winners                                                                      Runners Up

Pairs Division 1           Tudor Morris & Ray Hawkins                                    Ramon Riera & Andy Todd

Pairs Division 2           David Hearle & John Petchey                                   Phil Nelson & Richard Mason

Triples                          David Hearle, Bernard Plain & Don Hughes            Tudor Morris, Jill Whistler & Ray Hawkins

Although the summer season is still going strong, it is already time to think about the Club Short Mat leagues and competitions over the winter.  It’s likely that the first league games will take place on 11 October 2019, but the regular Monday and Wednesday afternoon roll-ups will start straight after the Closing of the Green on Monday 24 September and Wednesday 26 September 2019.

Pairs League games will be played on Friday evenings and as in previous years there will be 2 divisions – number of teams in each will depend on the number of entries. Triples League games will be played on Wednesday evenings fortnightly, provided at least 6 teams enter.

Towards the end of the season there will be knockout Cup competitions for Men and Ladies singles and for Pairs. Knockout games will normally be arranged for Friday evenings, but may be arranged for other days, if not enough spare slots are available. All fixtures will be posted on the noticeboard and on the club website.

The rules for all competitions are already on the club website and will be posted on the noticeboard before the start of the season.

We will again be entering teams in the Gloucestershire Short Mat Bowling Association Winter League and Seniors League (for over 60s). You will find a summary of how the leagues work on the noticeboard, as well as on the reverse of the entry form. Everyone who played last year really enjoyed the games and the challenge of playing on different mats and venues. If you would like to play in either (or both!), please indicate on the entry form and we will register your name to play in the county leagues.

So if you already enjoy Short Mat bowling or would like to have a go, please think about putting your name down to play: All you have to do is fill in an entry form available at the clubhouse or email the downloadable form below and pay the very modest entry fee (cheque, cash or bank transfer all acceptable).

If you do not have a playing partner(s), we will try to match you up to form a pair or triple. Even if don’t want to play in a regular team but want to join in, then you can put your name down as a reserve player to cover absences, that’s also very helpful – just let the organiser (Andy Todd) know.

All outstanding league games have now been completed - the winners this year are:

Pairs Division 1               Ramon Riera & Andy Todd

Pairs Division 2               Pamela & Bernard Plain

Triples League                Tudor Morris, Jill Whistler & Ray Hawkins
